This house, founded in 1972 and restored in 2013, is dedicated to the life and work of the famous writer from Accitan, as well as functioning as a museum of uses and customs from Alpujarra.

The Pedro Antonio de Alarcón Museum of Arts and Customs in Capileira is located in an old mansion owned by the town hall, which in turn is an interesting sample of the popular architecture of Granada's Alpujarra.

It is distributed over two floors, each divided into two warehouses. Inside there is a large and interesting sample of belongings and tools used throughout the ages in this region.

It was inaugurated in September 1972 on the occasion of the first centenary of the journey made by the famous writer Pedro Antonio de Alarcón through the Alpujarra, reflected in his work "La Alpujarra", where he describes the territory, its people and customs at the end of the 19th century. In principle, the Museum was the House of Culture and Residence of Artists, beginning in 1979 as a permanent exhibition of popular arts and customs.

We are in the highest town of the Poqueira Ravine, called Capileira, the origin of its name is of Latin roots, "Capillaris-e", which means hair, related to head, that is, the highest. It is the closest town to the Sierra Nevada peaks. You could say that we are in the "Puerta de Sierra Nevada" by its southern slope.
